Where to Stay in Dominica

Choose a base by what you want to do, not by the map: the island is small but slow.

Dominica has guest houses, small hotels, eco-lodges and apartments rather than large resorts. We do not list prices or availability, because they change. Choose a base for the days you want to have, then book directly or through a trusted platform.

Roseau and the south

Best if you are arriving by sea, want restaurants and a market on foot, and plan day trips by taxi. Easiest for first-timers and short stays.

Roseau Valley and Laudat

Closest to the hot springs, Trafalgar Falls and the trails into Morne Trois Pitons National Park. Quieter evenings, cooler air, and more rain.

Portsmouth and the north

For the Indian River, Cabrits National Park and a slower pace. Nearer to the main airport than Roseau.

East coast and Calibishie

Surf-edged bays, small guest houses and views over the Atlantic. Good for a few nights of quiet, with more driving for the main sights.

How to choose

  • Match the base to your hikes. Staying near a trailhead saves an hour of driving each way.
  • Check transport. If you do not hire a car, ask the host about taxis, guides and minibuses.
  • Ask about hurricane policy and cancellation. This matters between June and November.
  • Look for honest eco claims. Ask about water, energy and local employment instead of relying on a label.

Treading lightly

The island's appeal is its wild interior. Staying with small, locally owned places keeps more of your spending on the island and helps the places you came to see stay that way.
